Australia’s so called “Cyber-Safety Plan” would place them on par with the Great Firewall of China. A nationwide censorship, primarily ment to prevent childporn- and terrorist-websites from reaching their mainland through the World Wide Web, but “upgraded” to include erotic websites as well.
The plan is to allowed internet-users to “opt out” of this censorship program, but that doesn’t seem to go so easily.
Yet another blow to freedome of speech.

TorrentFreak reports on the case of a Belgian ISP (Scarlet) vs The Copyright Group (SABAM).
An ISP which was ordered by a court to stop illegal file-sharing on its network, says it simply can not. The Belgian ISP Scarlet says the court’s verdict is unworkable and after trying to slow traffic and also filter it, it says it’s not possible to stop the flow of illicit files since Audible Magic doesn’t work.
It’s an interesting case to follow up on, because they seem to draw the line to “every ISP” being responsible for “any (illegal) activity” on its network. Read more…

Telenet, one of the biggest ISPs in Belgium, has finally increased their monthly traffic limits for everyone who uses cable to connect to the internet. They did this without making a big fuzz about it, there’s no press-release yet. Belgacom, one the biggest competitors for Telenet, also raised their limits a few weeks back. Read more…

So we live in a country where a 10GB bandwidth limit per month is considered normal. Add to this the high price (close to 30-40eur per month), and you’ve got a recipe for complaints.
