mattias_geniarKnock Knock – Who’s there?

My name is Mattias Geniar, a Flemish male person living near Antwerp (Belgium). I started playing with scripting/programming languages & servers about 10 years ago, and during this time I’ve gathered my share of experience on various topics.

Which is also the main reason for keeping this blog; share that knowledge, and hopefully get a lot of feedback through reader interaction (comments).

What do you write about?

Since I’ve been working at Nucleus, my interest has shifted a bit to the typical LAMP stack; Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP. The typical swiss knife to any webdeveloper. However, I have a broad range of interests – so topics may vary.

So, what do you do?

Most of my programming experience comes from PHP, which I dare say I’ve mastered to a certain degree. Naturally a large portion of my time goes to creating & maintaining PHP projects, both for corporate and private use. This includes all technologies related to PHP, such as JavaScript, (x)HTML & CSS & SEO.

Besides that, server management (both Linux & Windows) also plays a big part in my everyday activities. From setting up new servers, to tweaking LAMP setups for performance gains. Add to that a healthy slice of virtualization (Parallels’ Virtuozzo & VMWare), Online Back-up systems and Zimbra’s collaboration suite (Microsoft Exchange rival).

Another vital – yet less frequent – activity, is network administration. Working in one of the largest Belgian hosting providers, this of course comes as no surprise.

Any special interests?

I’ve been spending quite a bit of time lately on mastering VMWare Infrastructure. There’s something about setting up high availibity, load balanced virtualized environments with fault tolerance that just gets me going!

What about …

Want to ask me a question? You’ve won the lottery and want to share your profit, but first I need to send you 20.000$? Have Viagra for sale? Just send me an e-mail at info@mattiasgeniar.be and I’ll respond as quickly as I can.
