Why do movie release dates suck?
It’s annoying to live in Belgium, for several reasons. We’re one of 2 countries in Europe that still has broadband-limits (ranging from 10GB to 30GB/month, for insane prices), the weather downright blows, and movies are released more than a month later than anywhere else in the world!
Take the latest hype for instance, Kung Fu Panda, it’s been shown as a commercial in movie theatres for more than 2 months (see the trailer, trialer #2), and we still can’t go out to see it. Belgian release date is scheduled for July 9th, 2008. When was it out America? June 5th. That’s more than a month earlier! Is it any wonder that illegal downloads are rising in numbers in Europe? What would you expect, if we have to wait longer and longer for movie releases?
I guess it could be worse, Kung Fu Panda won’t release until August 29th in Italy, or even September 3rd in Greece.
So let’s sum it up: due to download limitations given to us by our internet providers (see previous rant: Quick math to show how terrible Belgian bandwidth providers are), we can’t download those lovely bootlegs, and due to movie release-dates we can’t see top movies for ages. Frustration, frustration, frustration! Aargh!
