Having collegues that go to RIPE meetings, sure has its advantages. Besides learning a bit more of the operations of one of worlds largest Internet Resource Allocators, they get to bring home some ‘goodies’, including useful IPv4 and IPv6 network charts. My guess is the IPv6 chart will be used quite often, in the not-so-distant-future …
The IPv4 Network Chart

The IPv6 Network Chart

It came in a handy pocket-format for me, but I guess you could just print it out or save the image yourself. It’s also nice to see the enormous amount of extra IP addresses that IPv6 will produce!
Where IPv4 could provide 232 addresses, IPv6 can provide up to 2128 addresses!
In other words, IPv4 can handle 4 294 967 296 IP addresses due to its 32bit nature, and IPv6 can handle up 340 282 366 920 938 463 463 374 607 431 768 211 456 IP addresses (that’s not a typo, there are actually that many IPs available).

Ever found a URL ending with “.0″ (that’s ‘dot zero’) when searching for an item in Google? You probably haven’t, because it’s impossible to get a URL that ends with “.0″ listed in the Google search-result pages.

Linux can make you feel like a true nerd, by typing in all those fancy commands on a black & white terminal, and seeing it take effect on your computer/server. It’s a sense of accomplishment, once it works – you’ll definitely pat yourself on the back! In windows, even a dummy can change network settings. It’s a click-and-play thing. So how do you show off your Windows knowledge? By doing it command line style! Read more…

Only a small update, I’ve fixed some errors in the length of title- and description tags for Google, Yahoo! and MSN search results, added a whee bit of a layout (where Wordpress sort of ‘inspired me’) and added a Google SERP (Search Engine Result Page) preview.
Also fixed an ugly alt- and title-tag bug for images, where a regular expression sort of backfired on me.
Feel free to explore it over at http://seo.mattiasgeniar.be/
Any input would be greatly appreciated, tell me what to improve, what needs extra work, what should be left out and what is completely and utterly wrong. Also, be sure to report any bugs you might encounter.
Ps; I’ll release the source code for this analyzer too, once it reaches a semi-stable, semi-complete, semi-useful status.

What is this thing called “Net Neutrality”? Why is everyone bitching about it? Will it appear out of the dark and physically assault me? I’ll briefly go over what Net Neutrality means in todays world, and why it’s something that concerns all of us, from those users with high bandwidth usage, to the average John Doe that browses the net once a week. I’ve been planning on making it for a long time, and for some mystery I’ve found myself with some spare time … The result? A first Beta (or call it Alpha, if you will) of yet another free SEO analyzer. It’ll crawl a pre-defined webpage, and tell you whether or not you’ve made good use of the meta-tags (description, keywords, revisit, …), <H1/2/3>-tags, alt & title attributes with images, … Read more…

It’s annoying to live in Belgium, for several reasons. We’re one of 2 countries in Europe that still has broadband-limits (ranging from 10GB to 30GB/month, for insane prices), the weather downright blows, and movies are released more than a month later than anywhere else in the world! Read more…
